[講演要旨]
従来のストレージマーケットは、クローズドソースのファームウェアのライセン
スで収益を上げるビジネスモデルが主流でした。今このマーケット構造は急速に
変わりつつあります。SANおよびNASの両方で、オープンソーステクノロジーが急
速に進化しています。オープンソースを組み込んだ完全にオープンなソフトウェ
アソリューションが急速に支配的な地位を占めつつあります。この潮流を支えて
いるのは、ヨーロッパと日本の開発者の目ざましい貢献です。
本講演では、オープンソースによるストレージ技術の現状を紹介し、これによる
マーケットの変化を説明します。また、ヨーロッパおよび日本の技術者による
DRBD、Pacemaker、STGTなどの主要オープンソースコンポーネントを紹介します。

Traditionally, the storage market has been associated with proprietary
vendors following a closed-source business model and generating
revenue from firmware licensing. Today, that market is changing, and
it is changing rapidly. Open-source technologies are quickly making
their way into the storage arena, both in the SAN and NAS
fields. Storage appliances are quickly becoming dominated by open
source built-in, and completely open, software-only solutions are
quickly becoming available to users and customers. Both Japanese and
European developers have made remarkable contributions to open-source
storage and high availability.
This presentation will give an overview of the current state of the art
in open source
storage technologies, and provide an outlook on the pending market
changes. We will also take a closer look at the involvement of Japanese
and European open source developers in the relevant projects, such DRBD,
Pacemaker, and STGT.
